ASA RUNGE - 2016 BASEBALL SEASON
Entering the 2016 season as a 13U, Asa was selected to participate in the 2016 Annual International Power Showcase at the Miami Marlins Park, in Miami, Florida. In that competition Asa placed 3rd in the world for his age category by hitting a number of homeruns over 390 feet.
In January, 2016 Asa attended the PG MLK Championship tournament in Fort Myers, Florida. There he played for the Scorpions 13U team our of Tampa, Florida. There Asa set the highest pitching velocity for the Perfect Game event. And, he made the Perfect Game All Tournament Team for that event.
Asa's primary team for the 2016 season was, of course, the East Cobb Astros out of Marietta, GA. His season started in early February and went all the way to August. Every week he would fly down to Georgia for the events and fly back to New Hampshire at the end. Asa only missed three (3) games all season and that was due to him having to attend his Middle School graduation. By the end of the season, his East Cobb Astros Team played in excess of 90 games - winning most of them. Their season concluded with them winning the 13U Perfect Game BCS National Championship in Fort Myers, Florida. Their team was ranked #6 in the country by Perfect Game.
At the end of the season, Asa was selected by Perfect Game to represent New England in the 2016 Perfect Game Series Classic in Fort Myers, Florida for both 13U and 14U.
By October, 2016 the Perfect Game Nation and State ranking were issued for the 2020 class. Asa was initially ranked #108 Overall Nationally and #13 LHP in the Nation. Asa was also ranked by Perfect Game as the #1 Overall player in New Hampshire and the #1 LHP in New Hampshire. The National Scouting Report ranked Asa #51 in the Nation for the 2020 class.
