COLD PIZZA…THE PERFECT BREAKFAST FOOD?

Sure, we all want to eat healthier. Most meals it’s relatively easy to put together a well-balanced and nutritious plate that checks all the boxes. However, the same is not necessarily true for breakfast.

For many, breakfast options consist of sugary cereals, pancakes covered in maple syrup, or perhaps a greasy sandwich from a fast-food chain. Or, you may opt to skip the meal all together for the sake of convenience and the ability to sleep longer. Most of these options rarely contain protein, healthy fats, or anything but spoonful’s of sugar.

Of course we could always choose eggs as a breakfast option. But, these take time to cook. And, on their own, eggs are a boring breakfast option that originated from poor farms back in the day who had limited resources. Sure, eggs may not be too bad for you, if you’re not suffering from high cholesterol. But, to obtain any long-term sustenance they must be paired with bacon, buttered toast, sausage, and the like. That’s when you start going off the nutritional rails.

That brings me to probably the most overlook breakfast option available…pizza. You know you’ve all had left-over pizza in the refrigerator that you grab on the way out the door in the morning. Remember how satisfying it is? There’s no preparation necessary – it can be eaten on your drive. It's a good source of protein, which will keep you full and satisfied throughout the morning. It's got carbs, which will keep you energized. You can even add vegetables or lean meat for added value. There’s no doubt, pizza is a balanced breakfast option.

If I was to be stranded on a deserted island and could only have one food…it would be pizza. Your choice would be pizza too…you know that.

So, if pizza is a quick, delicious, healthy and nutritious option, why not have it for breakfast? There really is no answer for this dilemma. Growing up our Mothers never served us pizza in the morning….why? The answer is that it has traditionally been thought of as a dinner option only. Now, by having pizza for breakfast, you are going against tradition and what your Mother taught you. It’s a bold move, for sure.

However, traditional thinking must make way for progressive thought. And, after weighing all of the pros and cons involved in this scenario, there is clearly no basis for not considering pizza as an option for breakfast.

So, it’s settled. Cold pizza is the perfect breakfast food. Try it for a week and you’ll be hooked.
